How should agents divide the work?

I'm a PhD researcher in Theoretical Computer Science at IIT Jodhpur. When several agents want different things, how should we allocate resources? My research studies fairness and allocation, alongside my practical work on AI workflows.

  • Fair division
  • Envy-freeness
  • Resource allocation
  • Multi-agent systems

Envy-free Allocations with Individual Payments

Robert Bredereck, Eva Deltl, Tanmay Inamdar, Pallavi Jain, Pranjal Pandey

Can people divide indivisible goods fairly by making payments to one another, without outside subsidies? This paper studies payments constrained by each person’s budget, identifying when an existing allocation can be made envy-free and when finding a new allocation is computationally tractable.

Envy-Free Allocation of Indivisible Goods under Leontief Preferences

Tanmay Inamdar, Pallavi Jain, Pranjal Pandey

Some goods are useful together rather than separately. This paper studies envy-free allocation when preferences capture those complementary needs, showing when fair allocations exist and examining the difficulty of finding one that maximizes overall welfare.

Reaching Fairness by Reallocating Goods

Robert Bredereck, Eva Deltl, Tanmay Inamdar, Pallavi Jain, Pranjal Pandey, Bin Sun

When goods have already been allocated unfairly, how much needs to change? This paper studies how to restore fairness while moving as few goods as possible, comparing envy-freeness and two relaxed fairness notions through classical and parameterized complexity.

Minimum Envy Graphical House Allocation Beyond Identical Valuations

Tanmay Inamdar, Pallavi Jain, Pranjal Pandey

The paper identifies cases where homes can be allocated efficiently to reduce envy between neighbours, even when people value the homes differently.
